And there it was. At the end of the rainbow the same curse that was put on me since I was a child. The spell that haunted me all my life, sometimes quiet but always lurking in the shadows: we are punished for our sufferings, we are punished because we were punished. When you are damaged and broken there’s no magic rule of compensation that gives you something in return for your brokenness to level the playing field. But the opposite. You get broken once more because you were broken in the first place. Even the biblical wisdom goes along with the same unfair paradox: “Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.” (Mark 4:25). Now, that I was harshly, yet rightly, put in my place, the loop is complete. The snake is biting its tail. Back to square one. Back to my inescapable fate.
